The early years of the 20th century saw Scarborough as a confident seaside resort.Its hotels and boarding houses were crowded with holiday makers, 4th August 1914 Britain declared war on Germany. I will try and take you through Scarboroughs war years with old photographs.

A Good Gossip.
These two ladies standing outside their homes on Castlegate look a little bit upset by having their privacy intruded upon, these properties date back to the 1790s but look how spic and span everything is. the carpets would be shaken and beaten every morning,the steps scrubbed and pummy stoned white. Most of these houses were demolished in 1940 when a land mine exploded.
