The early years of the 20th century saw Scarborough as a confident seaside resort.Its hotels and boarding houses were crowded with holiday makers, 4th August 1914 Britain declared war on Germany. I will try and take you through Scarboroughs war years with old photographs.

Pre War Scarborough. A Sedate Mode of Transport.
The first cab to be seen on the streets of Scarborough appeared in 1836. By early 1900s over 200 cabs, Landaus and Hansoms were plying their trade. A feature of the seasons was the jockey carraige with the drivers dressed in silk blouses and racing colours. This photograph taken in lower Prospect Road shows Tot Pottage in topper on far left whose father was a cab proprietor
